Terms of Use

Last updated November 1, 2026

By using Death & Taxes: HSA Receipt Archive, you agree to these terms with its maker, Garrett Nichols, called "the developer" here.

Who can use the app

You must be at least 18 and able to enter into a binding agreement. The app is designed for health savings accounts in the United States.

A record keeper, not an advisor

The app helps you organize your own records. It does not give tax, legal, medical or financial advice. It does not decide whether an expense qualifies under IRS rules or your plan, and nothing it shows is a guarantee that an expense or withdrawal is tax-free. Growth figures are illustrations, not predictions. Check with a tax professional or your HSA provider before relying on anything here.

Your responsibilities

You're responsible for what you enter, for checking anything the app fills in from a receipt, for your tax filings, and for keeping the records the IRS requires.

Using the app

You may use the app to manage your own records and those of people you're responsible for. Don't use it to break the law, and don't copy, resell or reverse engineer it, or try to interfere with how it works, except where the law gives you that right.

Who owns what

Your records and receipts belong to you. The app, its name, its design and its artwork belong to the developer. You're confirming that you have the right to add what you add, including information about family members.

Your data and backups

Your records live on your device, and the developer has no copy and can't recover them. Clearing the app's data, uninstalling it, or losing your device can erase them permanently. Keep your own backups, and check that they open.

No warranty

The app is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. It may contain errors, including in amounts, rates, dates or receipt reading, and it may change or stop being available.

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, the developer isn't liable for taxes, penalties, lost data or other losses from using the app, including indirect or consequential losses. If the developer is found liable anyway, the total is limited to the greater of what you paid for the app in the previous 12 months or $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

Claims caused by your use

To the extent the law allows, if someone brings a claim against the developer because you misused the app, broke these terms or the law, or violated someone else's rights, you agree to cover the resulting losses and reasonable legal costs.

Governing law

Nevada law governs these terms, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Nevada, or to small claims court where it's available. Rights that the law where you live doesn't let you give up still apply.

Changes

If these terms change, the new version will appear here with a new date. Major changes will also be mentioned in the notes for the app update. Continuing to use the app means you accept the new version.
